The Region of Guelmim-Oued Noun covers an area of 58268 Km², or 8% of the national territory. It is bordered to the north by the Region of Souss-Massa, to the south by the Region of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, to the east by Algeria and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean.
According to the 2014 General Population and Housing Census, the Region has 433757 inhabitants and a density of 8.25 inhabitants per Km².
Its geographical position makes it a bridge between the north and the south of the Kingdom of Morocco. It is composed of 4 prefectures: Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Tan Tan and Assa Zag.
It is exceptionally rich in natural resources, which reinforces its economic position both locally and nationally. Indeed, agriculture is the main source of income for a large part of the local population, and the Region's farming is based on the production of cereals, dates and olive trees. Thus, the Region is known by the raising of livestock, including sheep, goats and camels.
Likewise, Maritime fishing is of vital importance to the economic development of the Region of Guelmim-Oued Noun. It is based on three main pillars: the Region's halieutic resources; the infrastructure of industrial units operating in fish production, namely Tan Tan Port and Sidi Ifni Port and the expertise of the sector's professionals.
In addition, the Region is distinguished by its natural and cultural diversity along with many other assets to attract tourists. Its coastline extends over hundreds of Kilometers, which promotes the development of beach tourism in the Region, and its desert nature encourages sand sports. It has also a variety of attractive oases.
