The Region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab is located in the far south of Morocco. It covers an area of 130898 Km², which constitutes 18.4% of the national territory. It is bounded in the north by the Province of Boujdour (Region of Laayoune - Sakia El Hamra), in the south and east by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean.
According to the General Population and Housing Census 2014, the Region has 142955 inhabitants of which 74% are urban, a rate well above the national rate (60.36%). Its density is 1.09 inhabitants per km², well below the national average (47.6 inhabitants per km²).
Administratively, the Region comprises two prefectures: the Prefecture of Oued Eddahab and the Prefecture of Aoussred.
The Region has a coastline of 667 km providing an abundant and very diverse halieutic stock, making the fishing sector the first economic activity and the largest operator in the Region.
In addition, tourism plays a major role in the Region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. It has an extensive coastline and important archaeological and natural sites, making it a promising tourist pole both locally and internationally.
